History of Spiritualism
On the 31st March 1848, modern Spiritualism was born.
The Fox family lived in the small town of Hydesville in the state of New York, where they started to get disturbed by rapping noises within the house. On the 31st March 1848 they became so loud that the family could not sleep. The two young daughters, Kate and Margaretta, started to clap their hands and shouted to the noise, which they nicknamed Mr Splitfoot. They were amazed when the number of raps that they could hear matched the number of claps. They asked questions, like how old they were, and received the correct number of raps as an answer. They also made a soundless clap that were matched and that was when they realised that the spirit entity could hear and see what they were doing. Their mother asked how many children she had and the ages of them all. The answer included one more child that had died as and infant, which no one there knew about. Word travelled fast and soon the neighbours were coming into the house to experience the phenomena.
An alphabetic code was worked out, including one rap for no and two raps for yes. Through this code the girls found out that the spirit was a peddler called Charles B Rosna. Who in 1843 and been murdered by John C Bell, a previous tenant in the house, and his body hidden in the cellar. The Fox sisters were forced to retract their stories but in 1904 the body of the peddler was discovered hidden in the cellar walls along with his tin box.
Psychic phenomena have been recorded throughout history and all major religions are based on some form of psychic event, but have been obscured by their adoption of dogma and creed.
