- Andrew Jackson Davis, 1826 - 1910
Andrew Jackson Davis was an American medium, which through his visits to the 'Summerland' during an out of body experiences prompted him to start the lyceum education.
He is also acknowledged as the Father of the Lyceum Movement.- Mrs. Hayden
- Mrs. Hayden came from America in 1852 and was the first Spiritualist medium to work in England. The press and clergy were not happy about her demonstrations but she continued and succeeded in providing communication from the spirit world.
- Daniel Douglas Home, 1833 - 1886
Daniel was one of the great mediums where all types of physical phenomena appeared. He was born in Edinburgh but developed his gift in America.
When he returned to England in 1855 he drew a lot of attention due to his amazing phenomena.- David Duguid, 1832 - 1907
- David was a medium from Glasgow and was famous for spirit oil paintings of landscapes, which were produced in total darkness and with an amazing speed, and independently of his hands. He also produced amazing phenomena and through his trance work the well known book Hafed, Prince of Persia was dictated.
- Dr. Henry Slade
Dr. Henry Slade was an American medium that was well known for slate writing, where spirit messages would appear on sealed slates. His mediumship was fully tested by several investigators and who then confirmed it as genuine.- William Eglington
- William's physical mediumship was famous for materialisations that took place outdoor and in daylight. While in this state he would also answer questions put to him in Spanish, French and Greek, and would reply in the relevant language. Gladstone was so impressed with a sitting with him, that he joined the Society for Physical Research.
- Florence Cook, 1856 - 1904
Florence produced an amazing materialisation of Katie King from the spirit world. Sir William Crookes, who confirmed that the spirit materialisation was totally separate and distinct from the medium, investigated her.- Leonore E Piper
Leonore who was a medium from Boston, America allowed herself to be subjected to being investigated for forty-five years. Through her trance mediumship she converted many eminent people to believing in the existence of the spirit world.- William Stanton Moses, 1839 - 1892
- William was an Oxford M.A. and a clergyman of the Church of England. Through his mediumship came teachings via spirit-controlled writing. These teachings were published in two books, Spirit Teachings and More Spirit Teachings.
- William T Stead, 1849 - 1912
- Through his mediumship he found that he had the gift of spirit-controlled handwriting. He was a well-known editor and became famous for his fight against the white slave traffic and the prostitution of children. He passed to the spirit world due to the sinking of the Titanic in 1912.
- Hannen Swaffer
- Hannen Swaffer was an author, journalist and socialist who created quite a sensation when he publicly converted to Spiritualism. His circle became famous, as it was where the spirit guide of Maurice Barbanell spoke, Silver Birch. The philosophy of Silver Birch is still available in books today.
- Mrs. Etta Wreidt
- Etta came to England in 1912 and 1913 and was a well-known direct voice physical medium. She never sat in a cabinet or went into trance and often joined in with the conversation when the spirits spoke to the sitters. Etta could only speak English but the voice from the direct voice mediumship spoke in many different languages.
- Leslie Flint
Leslie was a famous English direct voice medium. Although Leslie sat in a cabinet for his physical mediumship he also would be conscious and be able to join in with the conversations. Leslie was tested by many investigators and found to be genuine. Recordings of his direct voice sittings are still available.
